Jake's awesome score on a cheap Civic gave me an idea... what's the best car you can find on your local Craigslist for under $1000? Might be interesting to see what the results are across the country. Here in the rust belt anything that doesn't have holes in the body commands a premium, so a good crappy car is hard to find. (Pictured- not Jake's Civic)
I'll start with this, a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Looks like a ticking time bomb to me. I'd say about $4,000 worth of work would be needed in the next 6 months or so.

I personally wouldn't buy it, that's for sure. It's just the best of what I was able to find locally for under $1000. Pickings are slim when most cars in the area look like this after 15 years:

Actually I thought it was going to be a challenge. However, being in a college town and surrounded by rural areas. There are plenty of cheapo cars either being driven by students or sitting in the local residents fields.

$500 under budget with current tags. Take the other $500 and breath some life in to the woefully underpowered 301 cubic inch motor and lower the suspension. Hell, with $500 you could throw a 350 in it.
